University of Florida (UF) Located in Gainesville, Florida, the University of Florida is only 90 minutes away from Jacksonville, Florida and the state of Georgia, while Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach are about two hours away, according to www.dcp.ufl.edu. According to the www.ufl.edu, the school has more than 100 undergraduate majors and a long history of established programs in international education, service and research. Specifically, the school has programs in agricultural and life sciences, business administration, dentistry, education, health and human performance, journalism and communications, law, medicine and more. As far as housing, students have several options. If single, students can chose to reside in a single, double, triple, apartment or suite. Graduate students, married couples or single parent families can reside in a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment or townhouse. All housing provides beds, mattresses, dressers, study desks, desk chairs, trashcans, window coverings, cable television, and some have full-size refrigerators. Laundry rooms and swimming pools are on site at both locations, while graduate and family housing have telephone hook-ups. Florida International University (FIU) Florida International University is a four-year, public university located in Miami-Dade County. The school's location in Miami allows for plenty of attractions. The area itself includes Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Hialeah and smaller areas. The port of Miami is the number one cruise port in the world, while Miami is considered Florida's largest urban, transportation, and business area, according to www.fiu.edu. The university has several different schools for students to choose from. The departments include architecture and the arts, business administration, professional studies, education, nursing and health sciences, social work/justice and public affairs, hospitality, medicine and more. Housing for FIU is divided into several on-campus buildings, mostly either single or shared rooms. Every room has a private or shared bathroom and kitchen, unlimited internet access, cable TV and full furnishings. A volleyball court and swimming pool are on site at the majority of locations. University of Tampa (UT) According to www.ut.edu, the University of Tampa's beautiful, beach location is also home to plenty of attractions such as The Tampa Museum of Art, the Performing Arts Center and the St. Pete Times Forum, which are all about five minutes away from campus. Thirty minutes from the university is Ruth Eckerd Hall, Bayfront Center, the Florida International Museum and the Salvador Dali Museum. Probably the most popular attraction is Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and MGM Studios, only one hour away. Its most popular areas of study include management, communication, marketing, psychology, biology, international business and more. According to the university website, the school's MBA program is one of the largest in Florida and the school is one of the only elite private schools in the Southeast to have AACSB accreditation. The main source of housing for University of Tampa students is its residence halls. New or first-year students usually receive shared rooms, while upper-classmen are reserved single rooms. Each room includes air condition, cable TV, local telephone service, bed, desk, chair, closet/wardrobe and dresser. Lounges, laundry, vending machines, study areas and game rooms are on site. Florida State University (FSU) According to the university website, FSU is known for its large percentage of graduates in the medical field. Specific areas of study include the arts and sciences, law, medicine, business, criminology, music, human sciences and more. FSU's residence halls provide students with room choices of a single, double, triple, quad, an apartment or suite. Most rooms provide a kitchen, TV lounge, study room, recreation room, laundry room, computer connection, ice machine and sink. Some even have a patio, piano and computer lab on site. Florida State University is located in Tallahassee. University of Miami (UM) The University of Miami is best known for its School of Medicine and its School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Other departments include architecture, arts and sciences, business administration, communication and more. The university provides on-campus housing, including five residential colleges, apartments, an a university village. Room amenities include beds, dressers, desks, bookshelves, closet space, air condition and high-speed internet access. The school also provides direct consultation and guidance to help students find off-campus housing in the Miami area, if needed. Like Florida International University, Miami has plenty of sights to see and things to do. This includes "sailing on Biscayne Bay, hiking in the Everglades National Park or diving in the Florida Keys," according to www6.miami.edu. There are plenty of beaches, nightclubs and beautiful weather in this area, while hotspots include Coral Gables and South Miami, Coconut Grove and downtown Miami. New College of Florida The New College of Florida is a public liberal arts honors college, with programs in Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. The on-campus housing is divided depending by building, but mostly the rooms are separated into doubles, singles, triples and studio singles. To receive an on-campus residence, students must also purchase a meal plan. The New College of Florida is located in Sarasota. According to the university website, www.ncf.edu, the school is located in the beautiful and culturally diverse community on the Gulf of Mexico, about 50 miles south of Tampa. Barry University Barry University has plenty of academic programs, including accounting, advertising, art, biology, music, marketing, management, computer science, photography and tons more. The university provides both on and off campus housing, all that are divided into different residential buildings on campus. Most of the dorms are co-ed, separating upper classmen from undergraduates. Amenities include all basic furnishing, while most residences have swimming pools and recreational rooms. Barry University is located in Miami Shores, Florida. Rollins College Rollins College, located in Winter Park on the shores of Lake Virginia, is known for its impressive liberal arts and business curriculum. Specifically the college boasts majors and minors such as Communication, Computer Science, Art and Art History, Women's Studies, Marine Biology, Economics, Mathematics and more. The traditional buildings of the campus, also referred to as the residential buildings on the university's website, divide the on-campus housing into "halls." Each hall consists of single, double or triple rooms, with shared bathrooms and lounges. A set of 1 or 2 bedroom apartments are set aside for upper-classmen and new transfer students. These apartments include local phone service, internet, cable TV, a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, resident-only pool, boat dock and students do not have to purchase a meal plan. The college's location in Winter Park. Florida is less than 50 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, 70 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and the campus is aligned with Park Avenue; a popular street lined with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. Orlando is less than five minutes from Rollins College, where one can find plenty of entertainment from Walt Disney World to Busch Gardens. |
